Xylitol and Sugar
Xylitol is a sugar alcohol widely used in the food industry. It has the characteristics of sweet taste, low calories and low absorption. However, xylitol may be contaminated by some impurities during the production process and needs to be purified to meet food-grade standards. The adsorption of xylitol and sugars by activated carbon is mainly achieved through physical adsorption and chemical adsorption. During the physical adsorption process, the microporous and mesoporous structures of activated carbon can adsorb xylitol and sugar molecules to the surface to form an adsorption layer. The interaction between these molecules and the surface of activated carbon is mainly van der Waals force and electrostatic attraction, through which xylitol and sugar molecules are adsorbed and fixed. During the chemical adsorption process, the surface of activated carbon has certain chemical properties and can react chemically with xylitol and sugar molecules to form compounds. This adsorption can effectively remove impurities in xylitol and sugars, improving their quality and purity.
